What's In A Name?

What's In A Name?

Exceptions exist, but it's safe to say that the vast majority of us are given our name by our parents soon after we are born, and it is something that stays with us forever, even after our death.

Names are important because they represent the person who wears them, and this is why so many people love wearing jewellery with their name or their intial. Initials jewellery serve as a symbol of our own identity or as a reminder of someone we love.

INITIALS JEWELLERY: A WAY OF MAKING A STATEMENT ABOUT OUR OWN UNIQUE STYLE

It is a way of making a statement about our own unique style, but initials jewellery pieces also make meaningful gifts and can be an excellent way of showing our love or appreciation for someone.

But the question is... what's in a name? Have you ever asked yourself what your name means and about its origins? Did you ever get the chance to ask your parents why and how they came to choose your name?

Either way, you learn to identify with your name; some might not be too keen on their name, but live with it anyway, others don't go by their original given name, but rather by some variation to it, while some go as far as changing it and having their new name recognised at law.

OUR NAME IS OUR GREATEST CONNECTION TO OUR IDENTITY

Our name is our greatest connection to our identity and our individuality. Historically, names had an original meaning or association to the individual, which is something that we at Mvintage learnt a great deal about in our collaboration with the Notarial Archives Foundation.

The Foundation is a voluntary organisation whose aim is to protect, showcase and diffuse knowledge through the incredible treasure trove of historical information by helping to preserve them for future generations.

The Notarial Archives houses thousands of notarial registers and other historic manuscripts spanning a period of around 600 years.

COLLABORATION WITH THE NOTARIAL ARCHIVES

The designs of the Mvintage Is-Siġill Collection - made up of the original Is-Siġill Initial Pendants and the most recent Dainty Siġill Initial Pendants - were actually inspired by manuscripts found at the Notarial Archives.

When the collection was originally introduced in 2021, Mvintage shone a spotlight on the work of the Notarial Archives Foundation, and especially on the group of women, led by Joan Abela, who put in so much hard work into the preservation of the Notarial Archives.
